Living Laboratories: Soil Health at Wahaneeta Preserve
Wednesday May 12th @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
As we spring into warmer weather, flowers and trees are blooming again! But what lies beneath the soil? Come to our Living Laboratories lessons for any grade to learn about the soil’s microbiome! Use the links below to sign up for an hour-long field trip. Sign up with a group of friends or meet new friends along the way. Parents are welcome, but not required to attend.
Week 1: Soil Health at Wahaneeta Preserve, 118 Moorehouse Road
Wednesday, May 12 1 PM – 5 PM
Thursday, May 13 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM
Get your hands dirty exploring sediment types and decomposers like earth worms! Then use this knowledge to help the Land Trust plant milkweed seeds so we can track their growth!
Week 2: Microbiology at Barlow Nature Preserve, 449 Westerly-Bradford Road
Wednesday, May 19, 1 PM – 5 PM
Thursday, May 20, 2:30 – 5:30 PM
What lies beneath the soil, and how does it help plants grow? Let’s look at the soil samples from the Soil Health lesson and see what we find. Field microscopes will be provided for students to explore a whole new world. Attendance from the previous week is not required to attend this week’s activity.
