DESCRIPTION:This walk goes through Wahaneeta Preserve\, Woody Hill Management Area\, and Westerly Municipal Land Trust properties.  The hike is about 5 miles long\, and will go past foundations from the 1800s\, remains of an old quarry\, the Woody Hill Marsh\, ridges\, and ravines.  Moderate to difficult terrain.  There are several flat sections on dirt roads\, but note there are also a number of short but steeper hill climbs. Meet and park at Wahaneeta Preserve\, 118 Moorhouse Road\, Westerly.  The gate will be open; drive through the gate\, turn left\, and park in the field at Wahaneeta. \nTo sign up\, contact hike leader: Jeff Walker\, 401-447-1879 and email: Jeffrey.walker@cox.net \nThursday hikes are FREE. Be sure to wear hiking boots or good walking shoes. If the weather is icy you should bring stabilizers or something for traction. If a lot of snow bring snowshoes. We will begin at the Town Hall at 80 Boston Neck Road and proceed up to the Wickford Elementary School site across the NK Free Library property and through the Bush Hill Nature Preserve before finishing up at the Town Wharf at the end of Main Street. Along the way we will learn about the story behind the Hussey Bridge\, the tales of both the Ten Rod Road and the Washington Academy\, and the story of Wickford Village from the time of native Narragansetts right through to the present day. The hike is 2.5 miles but there is an opportunity to walk to the beach to add more distance. \nTo sign up\, contact hike leader: TBD \nThursday hikes are FREE. DESCRIPTION:It’s Earth Day! Help us clean-up the trails and celebrate after with an ale at Grey Sail Brewing. You won’t want miss this event!\n\n\nCleaning up is always more fun when you do it with friends! And this year is extra special. We are combining events with The Sugar Kelp Cooperative to celebrate Earth Day and the kick off of Kelp Week. \nJoin us for this Earth Day trash pick-up in and around WLT properties\, then head to Grey Sail Brewing Company for a post clean-up brew. Everyone who participates in the clean-up will receive a token to be used at Grey Sail for 1 FREE drink as a thank you for volunteering to help keep our environment clean and safe. A kelp infused drink for Kelp Week will be included on the menu. Keep the party going and enjoy live music from Small and Oates and grab some food from Vintage After Hours food truck to celebrate Kelp Week Kick-Off. \nMany thanks to Grey Sail Brewing Company for hosting our clean-up crews! \nRegistration required to help us determine how many preserves we will be able to tackle with our crews!
