SUMMARY:Spring Equinox: Yoga Hike
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the arrival of Spring and embark on a mindful adventure through the forest where we will practice yoga and welcome new beginnings.\n\n\nThe Spring Equinox is a perfect time to get outside and take notice of nature during a period of rapid change and vibrant growth. Join hike leader and local yoga teacher\, Janice Fifer\, for a grounding experience through the forest of Grills Preserve. \nThis experience will begin at the trailhead with centering and a short breathing practice\, followed by a mindful walk to the Polly Coon Bridge where we will mediate with the sounds of the river rushing over the rocks. On your way to Big Hill\, we invite you to draw inspiration from plants and animals that reawaken this time of year. A series of standing yoga poses will be strategically sprinkled into this experience throughout the hike where we will pause to stretch\, breath\, and balance amongst the trees. \nWe will cover ~ 3 miles total. No need for a yoga mat. Consider bringing an old towel or garden kneeling cushion to make sitting on the ground more comfortable. All levels welcome\, no yoga experience necessary. \nRegistration required\, spots are limited. This event is FREE for members\, and $10 per person for non-members. Not a member and would like to be? SUMMARY:Thursday Hike (Sunday Addition): Wickford Walk
DESCRIPTION:This is a Yankee Trailer hike which we have been invited to. Join Tim Cranston on a brisk walk through Wickford. We will begin at the Town Hall at 80 Boston Neck Road and proceed up to the Wickford Elementary School site across the NK Free Library property and through the Bush Hill Nature Preserve before finishing up at the Town Wharf at the end of Main Street. Along the way we will learn about the story behind the Hussey Bridge\, the tales of both the Ten Rod Road and the Washington Academy\, and the story of Wickford Village from the time of native Narragansetts right through to the present day. The hike is 2.5 miles but there is an opportunity to walk to the beach to add more distance. \nTo sign up\, contact hike leader: TBD \nThursday hikes are FREE. Be sure to wear hiking boots or good walking shoes. If the weather is icy you should bring stabilizers or something for traction. If a lot of snow bring snowshoes. Hikes leave promptly. \nPLEASE NOTE: \n\nEnding times are estimated as it difficult to ascertain when it will finish due to number of people\, how fast/slow the hikers walk\, etc.\nPlease sign up with leader so that person will know how many are coming. If no one signs up the leader may not show up.\nInclement weather cancels and if in doubt\, contact leader.\nIf you wish to bring a dog please contact the leader as some properties do not allow them.
