Everyone who participates in the clean-up will receive a token to be used at Grey Sail for 1 FREE drink as a thank you for volunteering to help keep our environment clean and safe. A kelp infused drink for Kelp Week will be included on the menu. DESCRIPTION:This is an Avalonia Land Conservancy preserve. The trails offer beautiful scenery of evergreen and hardwood forests.  A restoration project is underway to regenerate new growth and young forest patches where the old forest was dying due to disease drought\, storm and insect damage. Expect to see brush piles of cut tree limbs created for wildlife\, in addition to areas of dense vegetation of re-growing habitat. The area is crisscrossed by old stone walls\, a colonial highway and stone structures of questionable age. Directions from Westerly: CT 2W (toward Norwich\, CT)\, at traffic circle take 3rd exit onto CT 184W\, turn right onto CT 201N (North Stonington Road)\, park on either side of road at trailhead. \nTo sign up\, contact Co-Hike Leaders: Sally Hanson\, (401) 348-9109 (h)\, (401) 932-5295 (c) and email sallyhanson242@gmail.com and Deidre O’Connor\, (860) 287-7281\, and email deirdreo@snet.net \nThursday hikes are FREE. Be sure to wear hiking boots or good walking shoes. If the weather is icy you should bring stabilizers or something for traction. If a lot of snow bring snowshoes. He will also discuss the conservation threats that Rhode Island species face and how the Rhode Island Division of Fish & Wildlife is combatting these threats with conservation\, management\, and restoration. \n\nThis event is located at Barlow Nature Preserve.\nParking is available in the main parking lot\, with overflow parking in the field behind the outbuildings to the east (up the farm road).\nRegistration is required.\n\nDiscussion is open to WLT members. DESCRIPTION:This flat 3-mile walk is through an interesting variety of woods\, which are surrounded by extensive Atlantic White cedar swamp and open peatlands. Highlights include a platform overlooking a beaver lodge and the remnants of an old sawmill. Meet and park in the parking lot on the left prior to the end of Pound Road (do not block the gates)\, which is off Route 91\, Westerly Bradford Road. \nTo sign up\, contact hike leader: Jeff Walker # 401-447-1879.
