SUMMARY:WLT/WildRoots Wednesday Wonder Walk
DESCRIPTION:December’s theme is Terrific Tree’s. Come walk\, wonder\, and grow with us!\n\nDecember’s theme is Terrific Trees. Come walk\, wonder\, and grow with us! \nWe are teaming up with our friends from WildRoots once a month for Westerly Land Trust & WildRoots Wednesday Wonder Walks\, a guided family hiking series curated to spark curiosity and nurture a lifelong love of nature. Our partnership blends playful discovery with embedded teaching\, helping children build knowledge naturally as they explore. By connecting families to the land and encouraging stewardship\, we hope to inspire the next generation to care for—and protect—the wild places around them. \nEach session invites children and their families to slow down\, look closely\, and discover the magic of the natural world together. Every month features a new theme and a new Westerly Land Trust property\, giving young explorers the chance to get to know their local environment in a meaningful and memorable way. \nDecember’s theme is Terrific Trees and will be held at Wahaneeta Preserve. Through hands-on exploration\, gentle guidance\, and curiosity-led investigations\, children will learn how to identify local tree species\, observe seasonal changes\, and uncover the hidden stories that forests hold. \n– Programs are NO COST thanks to generous community support \n– Registration is required for all participants \n– An adult must accompany their child/children during program \nParking is available in the field at Wahaneeta Preserve. Turn in at the sign for Trombino Ball Field\, follow the dirt road past the fields\, and stay to the left. Continue left past the Wahaneeta sign and up through the dirt parking lot. Stay left as you go through the gate and park in the field. \nAbout the Hosts \nWildRoots Play is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a community where children and families can nurture connection\, holistic development\, and Earth stewardship through immersive experiences in nature and play. \nThe Westerly Land Trust (WLT) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to conserving open space\, revitalizing neighborhoods\, and building community in Westerly\, Rhode Island. SUMMARY:Thursday Hike: Grills to Grills
DESCRIPTION:For something different\, this 4-5 mile walk will be a point-to-point (one way) walk\, visiting a few highlights in both the Grills Wildlife Sanctuary in Hopkinton and the Grills Preserve in Westerly. Most of the trail will be on flat single-track\, but there are some hilly sections. From there\, we will leave roughly half the cars behind and caravan to the Grills Wildlife Sanctuary trailhead\, where we will start our walk. \nPlease contact the hike leader to let them know you will be joining. \nLeader: Jeff Walker             Phone: 401-447-1879                 Email: Jeffrey.walker@cox.net \nFluorescent Orange Requirements \n\nIn State Management areas\, everyone is required to wear 200 square inches of solid daylight fluorescent orange from the second Saturday in September to the last day of February and the last Thursday in April to the last day in May\, annually.\n500 square inches by all hunters (including archers)and all users of management areas and undeveloped state parks during all portions of shotgun deer seasons.\n\nClick to view the full Thursday Hike Schedule
