The Westerly Land Trust

Over the past three years, WLT’s stewardship team and volunteers have worked hard to remove woody invasives from the warm-season meadow, and now we are ready to increase biodiversity, patch-by-patch.

Plant Community is a nursery in East Greenwich that sells native plants grown from locally adapted seeds, preserving Rhode Island native plants unique and climate-specific adaptations. They provide diverse and affordable plugs and potted plants for restoration and home gardens.

The nursery’s new Patch-by-Patch restoration program seeks to help land trusts, conservation groups and private landowners increase biodiversity one planting at a time, believing that restoration isn’t always about remaking the landscape but augmenting it.

Sign up to join WLT and Plant Community in augmenting the meadow at Cottrell Family Preserve by planting a variety of native plugs. Fall is one of the best times to plant and we can’t wait to come back next year to track our progress and support native biodiversity.

• Wear comfortable clothing and footwear for working outdoors
• Bring a reusable water bottle, garden or work gloves, and a hand trowel if you have them
• Park at Flora Whitely Preserve at 193 Potter Hill Road. We will walk to Cottrell Family Preserve from there.
