Winnapaug Farm Preserve

The Winnapaug Farm Preserve is 35.8 acres and consists of two primary parcels, separated by a laneway, between Shore Road and Winnapaug Pond. A third smaller parcel is on the pond, between the primary parcels and the Misquamicut community. The property consists of agricultural land in corn and hay, woodlands, freshwater wetlands and salt marsh. It also contains fields formerly used by the Winnapaug Day Camp. The property was received as a gift in three portions between 2000 and 2010.

This property features two short trails to Winnapaug Pond. The first trail is located just east of the stone walls, back in the trees. This trail is original of the old Day Camp and is a straight shot to the Pond. The second trail begins just inside the pine trees, also located east of the stone walls. The trail goes through the trees and turns right onto a mowed trail. This trail also is also a flat walk to the Pond.

Crayfish are found in fresh water in many places around the world. They have a hard and protective exoskeleton that sheds as they grow. A single tail flip can propel them through the water when they feel threatened, perfectly demonstrated by our little friend in the video.

🐝🥕There are still spots open for our next two Living Laboratories sessions- Interesting Insects and Farming with Friends. 🍅Our Farm Squad 4-week FREE summer program is still open as well.
