The Westerly Land Trust’s preserves offer an array of ecosystems to explore, providing excellent opportunities for students to study wildlife, habitats, geology, and botany, while connecting with the natural world. Our education initiative supports the Rhode Island Environmental Literacy Plan, SEL (Social Emotional Learning),  and aligns with NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards) to apply science education goals on the land. Our programs are hands-on, will keep your students engaged, and FREE to attend thanks to our generous donors and grant funders.

We offer support with connecting your curriculum to conservation to get the most out of our programs. There is so much to learn from the great outdoors both academically and social and emotionally.

Crayfish are found in fresh water in many places around the world. They have a hard and protective exoskeleton that sheds as they grow. A single tail flip can propel them through the water when they feel threatened, perfectly demonstrated by our little friend in the video.

⏰It’s almost time for 401Gives, Rhode Island’s Statewide Day of Giving, celebrated every year on 4/01 in honor of the Ocean State’s area code. This year, the online fundraiser will run for two full days:

We registered for our first at the end of 2019, and boy, were we glad we did when April 1, 2020 rolled around and our traditional fundraising plans faced an uncertain future. Our amazing supporters rallied to raise $10,000 for WLT in just one day, signaling people’s need for connection with nature during a tumultuous time. 401Gives has held a soft spot in our hearts ever since. But it’s more than just what this event does for WLT. All across the state on this day, people are showing up to support the causes that they appreciate most!
