The Westerly Land Trust is proud to partner with our community’s schools to offer enriching, outdoor, after-school opportunities for our local K-4th graders! Here on WLT preserves, your students will explore, get their hands dirty, experience nature, and have fun with their friends, all while learning directly from the land. Read on for more information about these no cost programs coming in the 25/26 academic year.

Program 1- HABITAT HUNTERS at Grill Preserve: From buzzing bugs to hidden animal tracks, every discovery helps us learn more about the wild world right outside our door. Whether you love mud, moss, or mystery—this program is the perfect way to spark a love for science and nature and become a nature detective.

Program 2- WACKY WEATHER at Barlow Nature Preserve: Calling all explorers! Get ready for a hands-on adventure into the wild world of weather. Step into the shoes of a meteorologist and measure wind with real anemometers, identify clouds in the sky, and discover how weather affects plants, animals, and habitats right here in New England.

Program 3- FEATHERED FRIENDS at Wahaneeta Preserve: Soar into the fascinating world of birds. Become a naturalist and explore what makes birds so special. From tiny songbirds to soaring hawks, learn how to spot, identify, and understand the feathered wildlife that calls our preserve home.

Program 4- SPROUT SCOUTS at Barlow Nature Preserve: Plants aren’t the only things growing- get ready for a green adventure for growing minds! Dig into the amazing world of plants and discover how plants grow, survive, and support life all around them.

• Programs listed below are coordinated with Westerly Public Elementary Schools (SES, SSS, DCS)

• All programs except for easy release days (10/2 and 5/7 marked with *) run until 5:30 PM
  • Program runs until 4:30PM on early release days (10/2 and 5/7)
• A healthy snack is provided at the start of program
• Transportation
  • All students are bussed to program after school
  • Students can be picked up by a guardian or take the bus home after program
• All programs occur on a WLT preserve
• Registration is required for each individual program you would like to attend.
• Registration closes for Fall programs on Wednesday, September 24, and on April 1 for Spring.
