Join WLT’s stewardship efforts as we maintain preserve marsh hydrology at Winnapaug Farm Preserve. In a partnership with RI DEM and Save the Bay, WLT installed and maintains features called runnels which aid in the draining of freshwater off the marsh platform. The features help preserve native salt marsh grasses, combat the spread of Phragmites australis, and even control mosquito breeding habitat!
Come prepared to get a little muddy and wet — work gloves, knee/hip boots (waterproof), shovel, and a water bottle. If you happen to have a digging fork or pitchfork bring that, too! We have a few extra knee boots and hip waders of various sizes for those who don’t have any, just email Marc ([email protected]) ahead of time with your shoe size.
Parking
- We will park on the easternmost field of Winnapaug Farm Preserve. Look for the open red gate across from 112 Shore Road, Westerly.
